Books I’ve Been Reading
…to escape the craziness of 2020
I mean…to say 2020 has been quite a year is a vast understatement. There are many ways we can escape the madness - spending time outdoors, picking up a new hobby, binging a TV show, exercising…drinking wine. Over the past few months, reading has been my go-to avenue.
So, what books have I been spending time with lately? Lots and lots of fiction with some non-fiction sprinkled in. My favorite non-fiction books are thrillers. There’s something about the a good thriller that sucks me in and keeps me glued to the pages. Do you know what I mean?! Give me a plot with a murder investigation, twists and turns along the way, and a solid dose of suspense and I’m hooked. In the non-fiction department, seeing as I wrote a book called Think Happy, it’s probably no surprise to you that I lean toward inspirational, self-growth books.
Here’s what I’ve had my nose in this year:
Fiction:
Nine Perfect Strangers by: Liane Moriarty
Nine strangers meet at a “health resort” - their stay is filled with health, wellness…and some unexpected, dangerous activities.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Aging Hollywood beauty tells a young reporter the history of her love life. And she doesn’t leave out a single detail.
Verity by: Colleen Hoover
A young writer accepts a gig to finish writing a series that a famous, dying author has started. Who hired her? The dying author’s husband.
Vengeance by: Megan Miranda
Falcon Lake has a reputation of being cursed. When people who have visited the waters start turning up dead, people start taking the idea of a curse more seriously.
The Innocent by: David Baldacci
Hitman + hit gone wrong = a total page turner
The Cuckoos Calling by: Robert Galbraith (J. K. Rolling’s pseudonym)
Based in London, a supermodel’s suicide is investigated by PI and veteran, Cormoran Strike. Along for the ride is Comoran’s new, female assistant (insert romantic tension).
The Last Romantics by: Tara Conklin
Stories from past and present intertwine as an elderly writer tells listeners about how her life has impacted her writing.
The Turn of the Key by: Ruth Ware
Ruth Ware is one of my favorite psychological thriller authors! Think a “smart house” gone wrong…or is it someone inside the house?
American Royals by: Katharine McGee
Set in a time where George Washington was America’s first king, this story is about the friendships and relationships (and the overlap of the two) of the royal kids.
The Giver of Stars by: Jojo Moyes
A historical fiction story of a group of women determined to keep their traveling library afloat. And don’t worry, there’s a good dose of romance thrown in, too.
Behind Her Eyes by: Sarah Pinborough
Woman meets man at bar. Woman then bumps into another woman on the street and they become fast friends. Turns out, the man and woman on the street are married…and there’s something fishy going on behind closed doors.
One to Watch by: Kate Stayman-London
